Disc Archiver 1.0.1

The importance of backing up files on a computer cannot be over-emphasized. One of the methods you can use to back up your data is saving them on optical discs. The problem is that some of the files you want to save may be larger than the CDs or DVDs you want to use, in which case many disc burning programs will simply abort the process. Thankfully, you can use Disc Archiver to back up large files on several discs.

Using Disc Archiver
Disc Archiver featured a tabbed graphic user interface that allowed us to access various program functions on the same window. Tabs for accessing the functions and features were located on the left part of the window, and clicking a tab displayed corresponding features on the right side, which covered most of the user interface.

The program started on the Archive tab where we had the option to select the files we wanted to back up. It displayed the number of selected files on the lower part of the interface, including their total size and estimated number of discs required depending on the disc type selected on the upper right part of the window.

We typed the project name we wanted and configured appropriate burn settings. The burning options we could configure included the number of copies to burn, enabling disc verification after burning and inserting index file. Although the last option required additional disc space, it enabled the restoration of folder and files back to their original structure on the hard disc.

When we clicked the "Start" button, the free disk archiver automatically managed the files and processed the burning. The program allowed us to burn a movie that was over 20 GB on several DVDs. It split the file in a way that maximized the space on the DVDs.

When restoring files, we could use either the index mode to copy data in the original structure or select the path where we wanted to restore the files. We could also choose to overwrite existing files, rename and keep both files or keep the existing files.

The Projects Records tab enabled us to view our list of projects, which showed us details like creation date, project name, status and disc type.

The System Settings tab let us choose the paths to temporary storage and database locations, language, enable auto update and sending of project reports via e-mail upon completion. We could configure burn settings like enabling file splitting and setting burn speeds for different optical discs. We could also enable or disable disc serial maker.

Conclusion

Disc Archiver is a free program for backing up files on different types of optical discs, including DVD-RW and Blu-ray discs. You can use the program with Acronova Nimbie Disc Autoloader for hands-free operation when saving files on multiple discs.
